The concepts of representation and representativity have been present in every single discourse and theory about photography since the very early days of the new medium, but it has been perhaps during the last 30 years when the boundaries between the referent and its image have been blurred the most. However, considered within the current socioeconomic context, both ideas gain a renewed relevance and the classic approaches to both visual representation and social representativity are being challenged once again.
This body of work shows 39 images belonging to all of the Christmas speeches given by King Juan Carlos I since his accession in 1975, each of them obtained by rendering the video of the speech into its average colour. The word on top of each image corresponds to the most repeated substantive in each speech after removing the word 'Spain'.
